I was supposed to go to a hotel, because they said this Airport was not very safe, so I collected money for staying one night at a hotel. But now the hotel seems to cost 130 euro, and they don’t even have free wifi with that (only 15 minutes, and then you pay 5 euro an hour). So I decided to just have the internet voucher for 5 euro, and spending one hour in the lobby of the hotel using wifi. So now I’m enjoying.
It’s now already midnight, and I think I will have to check in at 5 am, so it will just be a few hours. And I don’t mind hanging around at this quiet airport, with cleaners and security, policemen and army everywhere. It seemed they have uplifted this airport since the World Championships of soccer last year. I feel very safe here, because everywhere there are people willing to help you find your way, and security was walking with me and carrying my luggage. How nice is that!
And the temperature is nice, it’s about 20 degrees at night, so smoking outside is no problem at all. And I can really understand South-African language, it is like Dutch but then with an accent. I can follow what is said. And I really like words like “Dankie” (means: thankie), and the double prohibits that say “geen selfoon gebruike nie” .. (means: no cellphone use no). I feel very at ease over here.
I absolutely love Africa. It’s so peaceful, no rush, no make up, not such a fake world, but very pure and true. I love the people over here. And I’m looking forward to going to Cape Town tomorrow. I will be picked up from the airport, and then I will meet a lot of people I have seen before, because everyone is gathering for the conference of PANUSP (Pan African Network of Users and Survivors of Psychiatry). I will be writing the daily reports to help the organizers. (I always write reports for my blog anyway, but this time I will do it in English).
But it was a hard day today, sitting down for 11 hours on a small chair, in a fully filled airplane. I was happy that I didn’t get much sleep in the 2 nights before, so I was snoozing quite a lot (and the little girl next to me feel asleep on my shoulder). I had a good flight, but my ass hurts from sitting down. Tomorrow only 2 more hours of flying, and then I have finally reached my destination: the south of South Africa, Madiba-country, the rainbow-nation. And they do like my hair :)
