I’m here together with Rob van Pagee, who is linked to the Eigen Kracht-centrale (Dutch organization for Family Group Conferencing). Rob invited me to join this conference to elaborate on using Family Group Conferencing (FGC) for supported decision making in mental health care. So that is why I am here. I hope to inspire and empower the participants on this theme.
We already met Zeljka, one of the organizers, who came to pick us up at the airport. After that Rob and I went to have some Italian food for lunch/dinner in the late afternoon, and we walked through the streets of downtown Belgrade. I like it here. The city is very much alive and more diverse than I expected. I feel quite at ease.
In the early evening I tried to get access to internet, but after 2 hours I quit trying, concluding that the wifi wasn’t working well. That was quite disappointing.
At 19.30 Zeljka came to pick us up from the Hotel to go to the theatre. She had organized tickets for us to watch a show with a Serbian comedian and a Cuban band. It was a nice mix of music and cabaret, and Zeljka translated some parts, so I got an idea of what it was about (a family trip to the beach). The music was really nice, not only Latin, but also Slavic, and mainly entertaining. And at the end everyone got up from their seats to dance along. I had a nice evening.
And now I’m back at the hotel, and I managed to get internet working, but not on my floor, so I have to sit in the lobby with my laptop when I want to go online. I hope it will be fixed tomorrow so I can work from my room.
Today I didn’t do much work, but I basically discovered that Belgrade is nice :)
